for Christchurch, "Pure New Zealand" quality of life - Save Our Environment

" Let us remember that the Treaty was signed so that we could all live as one nation in Aotearoa " -- Whina Cooper

"Be The Change
you want to see in the world " -- Mahatma Gandhi

Christchurch City Council - community board, council and mayoral campaign 2010, to bring
- ethical governance, transparency, accountability and balance to corporate public service
- conservation-oriented, clear community values, for sustainable economic development
- better transport systems, with roading de-congestion and safe, energy-efficient routes
- a guarantee that public assets like Port Lyttelton will stay in public hands, a brake on privatisation
- more youth opportunity, democratic engagement with the community, politics is fun! when you know how
- council elections by Single Transferable Vote (STV) proportional representation for a kaitiaki multiculture
- no fluoridation of water supplies ~ keep our water pure! ~ ' kids can use fluoride toothpaste' say Plunket

Integrity is the core value for water sources as in politics - making Bob Parker and Jim Anderton unelectable

:: the course of the former over water resource management is taking us in the direction of chlorinated human supplies; * the promise of the latter is the same, and worse - inadequately-mitigated nitrogen leaching and pathogenic microorganism release from sponsored dairy cattle over-population, but adding fluoride via central government decree.

Puraho maku, kei ngaure o mahi: To catch fish you must place your basket in the water (and get to work)

Top Issues - STOP:

#1 Chlorinated water supply - over-allocation, pollutants, Central Plains Water policy u-turns, excess Synlait and Fonterra milk-drying plants, etc

#2 Fluoridated water supply - http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/3864753/Oral-health-on-Andertons-agenda - expensive mass medication

#3 Impediments to clean roads, parks, rivers and coast, and to full community employment - e.g. relieve substance abuse and related negative effects such as crime - bring community engagement

#4 The excessive subordination of community boards to council - reinstate community board delegations and remuneration

More policies:

- sustainable food, building material and biofuel production from council rural land assets, new industry jobs boost!

- new, affordable council housing program, central city and satellite towns under Urban Development Strategy

- link rural and urban communities to pressure Government for large reduction of Canada geese pest numbers

- complete the Estuary walkway, safe walking transit from McCormack's Bay (properly drained) to Redcliffs and Sumner
- a modest coastal marine reserve near the city, for the lasting replenishment of fish life & tourism, grow Eco-city status
- a City Care focused more on keeping Christchurch streets and reserves clean than national monopoly, repairing roads

* The removal of elected public oversight of the Canterbury R egional Council, by central government intervention in April 2010, was strongly encouraged by all of the Canterbury mayors under the particular influence of the Christchurch Mayor. Transparency of regional operation, quality of science and public accountability have all been compromised by the subjugation of water values to the mayors' commercial prerogatives. With less public monitoring, in the face of increasing industry pressure on an already-stretched natural resource, water quality can only reduce. Give your verdict on these unsettling actions now - Your Water, Your Vote!
